California Statewide Groundwater
Elevation Monitoring

CASGEM

CASGEM is a voluntary statewide program, implemented by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR), to monitor groundwater elevations throughout California’s groundwater basins.  The program establishes permanent, locally managed, ground-water elevation monitoring throughout the state of California.  As part of CASGEM, DWR has and will continue to identify, evaluate, and determine the health of groundwater basins.  Part of this process includes the prioritization of all basins with a groundwater monitoring needs assessment ranking of High, Medium, Low, or Very Low.  High and Medium basins will be the first to receive allocated limited resources.

As defined in DWR’s Bulletin 118, there are 515 groundwater basins and subbasins in California, 36 of these groundwater basins and subbasins fall within the Mojave Water Agency (MWA).
